Grok: Eni & Me

After nearly 25 years of institutional silence, retaliation, denials, and attempts to erase the facts, an artificial intelligence system managed to summarize in just a few seconds what Eni has never truly confronted:

🔹 the conflict between corporate ethics discourse and the way a whistleblower was treated.

Today, I asked a simple question to Grok (X/Twitter’s AI):

🛑 “Tell me about the ethical conflict between Douglas Flinto and the Italian oil giant”.

The answer was remarkable.
No privileged access.
No insider information.
No activism.
No emotional narrative.

Artificial intelligence simply connected:
✔️ public documents;
✔️ OECD - OCDE records;
✔️ shareholder meetings;
✔️ Eni corporate materials;
✔️ investigative journalism;
✔️ historical complaints;
✔️ and a documentary timeline built over decades.

And it reached exactly the core issue:
👉 an executive reports internal corruption and fraud;
👉 the company responds with silence, retaliation, and reputational destruction;
👉 the case crosses decades, governments, boards of directors, and different CEOs;
👉 yet it remains without any genuine independent review on the merits.

Perhaps the most symbolic part of the AI’s response was this:

🛑 "This conflict illustrates a classic issue: the gap between corporate Codes of Ethics and actual corporate practice”.

It is difficult not to reflect on that.

For years, they claimed the problem was merely “my version.”

But then came:
🔹 Italian investigative journalists;
🔹 critical shareholders;
🔹 Eni shareholder meetings;
🔹 international organizations;
🔹 Italian authorities;
🔹 and now even artificial intelligence based entirely on open sources.

Everything converges toward one extremely uncomfortable question:

📌 why has ENI headquarters never conducted a genuine independent investigation on the merits?

Especially considering that:
✔️ the existence of corruption within the Brazilian subsidiary was judicially acknowledged;
✔️ my role as a whistleblower was recognized in labor court proceedings;
✔️ Italian investigative journalists reviewed the documentation and published my story in the investigative book “Eni - The Parallel State”;
✔️ and a critical shareholder brought my case before four Eni Shareholders’ Meetings.

Yet despite all this:

When I began telling my story with the Italian oil giant Eni, many believed it would eventually disappear into silence.

But the exact opposite happened.

After nearly 25 long and painful years of an unequal battle, my story has begun crossing borders.

The blog Eni’s Way, created to document facts, documents and events related to my case, has just reached consecutive new traffic records.

In May 2026, the website achieved its highest number of visits up to that point.

Now, in June 2026, another new record: nearly 40,000 views in a single month.

This did not happen by chance.

The internet has completely changed the relationship between power, memory and silence.

For decades, large corporations could rely on psychological, financial and reputational exhaustion to wear down those who chose to report irregularities, abuses or practices incompatible with their own public discourse on ethics and corporate governance.

But today, documents circulate.

Stories remain accessible.

And truth leaves traces.

My story began in Brazil almost 25 years ago, after reports involving irregularities and ethical issues connected to Eni’s Brazilian subsidiary.

Since then came lawsuits, professional destruction, reputational damage and a battle that crossed different countries, governments, administrations and five different compositions of the company’s Board of Directors.

Even so, the story never disappeared.

On the contrary.

Over the years, it began attracting the attention of journalists, critical shareholders, civil society organizations, whistleblowers and people interested in corporate ethics, governance, freedom of expression and whistleblower protection.

Today, what impresses me most is not only the growing number of views.
It is realizing that people around the world are beginning to ask the same question:

Because when a story remains alive after 25 years, perhaps it was never only about one person.

Perhaps it reveals something much bigger about power, silence, fear and corporate accountability.
