Eni - a case with clear SLAPP characteristics.
One of the co-authors of the lawsuit remains Eni’s former Chief Legal Officer, Dr. Massimo Mantovani, later dismissed after serious investigations reported by the Italian press involving allegations of unlawful conduct, false dossiers, slander, and attempts to obstruct corruption investigations.
Ironically, the same narrative of alleged “unlawful conduct” was publicly used by Eni against me in its official “Questions and Answers before the 2017 Shareholders’ Meeting” document - after I had reported corruption internally in compliance with the company’s own Code of Ethics.
Nearly 25 years later, the whistleblower remains under attack, while the company’s own history continues to raise profound questions about corporate governance, accountability, ethics, and retaliation.
